How to use InvestMike

A friendly walk-through of every feature — written for beginners.

Getting started

InvestMike is a calm, beginner-friendly investing companion. It helps you track what you own, understand market moves in plain English, and learn as you go — without the jargon, hype, or pressure of typical trading apps.

  1. Sign up with email or Google.
  2. Personalize your investing profile (experience, risk tolerance, interests, time horizon). Mike tailors advice to you.
  3. Add your real holdings on the Portfolio tab to get live values, ROI, and personalized AI reads.
  4. Explore Emerging stocks, Crypto, and chat with Mike whenever you have a question.
You can revisit your profile any time from Profile → Personalize your investing profile.

Your profile & easy access

Your profile is your control center. Tap the circle with your initial in the top-right corner of any page to open it. Right next to it is the book icon — a one-tap shortcut back to this guide.

  • Your name — set a real display name so Mike greets you properly (instead of using your email prefix).
  • Personalize your investing profile — update experience, risk tolerance, interests, and time horizon any time. Mike re-tunes recommendations instantly.
  • Watchlist & notifications — manage saved tickers and choose which alerts you want to receive.
  • Sign out — at the bottom of the profile page.
New here? Open the user guide any time from the floating book icon in the top-right.

Portfolio — track what you own

The Portfolio tab is your home base for everything you own across any broker.

Adding a holding

  1. Tap Add holding.
  2. Enter the symbol (e.g. NVDA), type, units owned, and broker.
  3. Choose how you'll tell Mike your cost basis:
    • Total $ invested — the dollar amount you originally put in. Best when you know it from your broker.
    • Current gain/loss ($) — if you can't find what you originally invested, just type your current profit/loss in dollars (use a minus sign for a loss). Mike uses the live price to back-calculate your true cost basis.
Own the same stock across two brokers? Add it twice with different broker labels — Mike will sum them on the totals card.

Reading the totals card

  • Current Value — units × live price.
  • Invested — total cost basis across all holdings.
  • Total ROI — your unrealized gain or loss in dollars and percent.

Reading each row

  • ▲ green = gain · ▼ red = loss
  • Live badge = price is streaming from the market (refreshes every few seconds).
  • Tap any row to open the full detail page with chart, AI advice, risks, and "things to watch."
If a stock's price feed briefly fails, the last good price is kept so your totals don't jump around.

AI advice on each holding

Tap any holding row to see Mike's read — a calm, educational analysis tailored to your specific position:

  • Stance — e.g. "Hold leaning bullish", "Consider trimming", "Wait and watch". This is education, not a buy/sell order.
  • Why — a short, plain-English reason for the stance, considering your cost basis and current price.
  • 12-month projections — Conservative, Expected, and Bullish ranges, all clearly labeled as estimates.
  • Key things to watch — catalysts and risks to keep an eye on (earnings, regulation, sector trends, etc.).
  • Beginner takeaway — the bottom line in one or two sentences.
Mike never promises profits. Stances are educational frameworks to help you think — never instructions to buy or sell.

Live AI Projections

On every stock detail page, you'll find a Live AI Projection card showing three 12-month scenarios — Conservative, Expected, and Bullish — generated fresh from real news headlines and live price data.

  • Conservative — what could happen if growth slows or risks play out.
  • Expected — Mike's middle-of-the-road read given current data.
  • Bullish — what a positive scenario could look like if catalysts hit.
Projections are cached for 24 hours, so the numbers stay consistent through the day. They refresh automatically the next day with new data.
Every projection is clearly labeled an Estimate. They're educational scenarios — not guarantees of any outcome.

Scores & badges explained

Opportunity Score (0–100)

Found on Emerging stocks. Higher = stronger opportunity in Mike's view (mix of growth potential, theme tailwinds, and risk-adjusted upside for a beginner).

  • 80+ — Strong opportunity, clear catalysts.
  • 65–79 — Solid, worth a closer look.
  • 50–64 — Speculative — interesting but risky.
  • Below 50 — Mostly hype; proceed carefully.
A high score is not a buy signal. Always pair it with the Risk badge and your own time horizon.

AI Outlook Score

Mike's view of a stock's medium-term outlook based on fundamentals, momentum, sector trends, and analyst consensus. Higher = more constructive outlook.

Risk badges

  • Moderate — typical market volatility.
  • Higher — bigger swings; be ready emotionally.
  • Speculative — high reward potential, high risk of loss.

Analyst consensus

A blended summary of what professional analysts publicly rate the stock — Strong Buy, Buy, Hold, Sell. Useful context, not gospel.

Watchlist

Anything you're curious about but don't own yet goes here. From any stock or crypto detail page, tap the bookmark icon to add it. Find your full list under Profile → Watchlist or via search.

Alerts & notifications

The Alerts tab combines Mike's daily picks with real notifications from your portfolio and watchlist.

  • Daily Picks — 1–3 ideas tailored to your risk and interests, refreshed each day.
  • Momentum / Rebound / Sector signals — short educational alerts when something interesting moves.
  • Notification badge — the red number on the bell icon in the bottom nav shows unread items.
Tune what you receive in Profile → Notifications: pick categories, risk sensitivity, and frequency.

Notification center

Beyond the Alerts tab, InvestMike has a full notification system. Anything important — price hits, news on your holdings, AI insights — lands in your notification feed with an unread badge.

  • Real-time updates stream in automatically, no refresh needed.
  • Per-category toggles let you control alerts, news, and AI insights independently from your profile.
  • Mark as read by tapping any item, or clear everything from the top of the list.

Discover, sectors & top buys

The Discover area is where you browse beyond your own holdings. It includes:

  • Top Buys — Mike's highest-conviction picks right now, ranked by AI score.
  • Top Earners — best-performing stocks across recent timeframes.
  • Sector Heat Map — live winners and losers by sector, refreshed daily.
  • Categories — themed lists like dividend aristocrats, AI leaders, defensive plays, and more.

Crypto coverage

Curated, beginner-friendly crypto coverage — major coins, live prices, plain-English explainers of what each project does and why it matters. Add coins to your portfolio just like stocks.

Emerging stocks

Up-and-coming names Mike thinks beginners should know about, each with an Opportunity Score, Risk badge, and a 1-line pitch.

Tap a card to open the full breakdown: what the company does, why investors like it, known risks, scenarios (conservative / expected / bullish), and lower-risk alternatives if it feels too spicy.

Recent IPOs

The IPOs page shows companies that have just gone public or are about to list — including the latest names from this year. Each entry has a beginner-friendly explainer of what the company does and what to watch for in its first months as a public company.

New IPOs are usually very volatile in the first 6–12 months. Be patient and size positions small if you're new.

Top investors to follow

See what legendary investors — Buffett, Wood, Burry, Ackman, and others — are publicly buying and selling. Each profile includes their style, recent moves, and what beginners can learn from their approach.

Don't blindly copy 13F filings. Use them as a starting point for your own research, then ask Mike to break down anything you don't understand.

Coach Mike (chat)

Mike is your AI investing coach. Ask anything — "what's a P/E ratio?", "should I worry about a 5% pullback?", "explain dividends like I'm 12" — and you'll get a calm, beginner-friendly answer with no jargon.

Mike remembers your investing profile (risk, experience, time horizon) and tailors answers to it. Update your profile any time to change the tone.

Smart Exit Guidance

Selling is harder than buying. The Exit Strategy area teaches you how to think about taking profits, cutting losses, and avoiding emotional decisions — with bite-sized lessons and a guardrail modal that pops up before you sell from your portfolio.

Free vs Premium

InvestMike's core experience — portfolio tracking, watchlists, live data, and basic AI advice — is free for everyone. A future Premium tier will unlock deeper features like unlimited AI projections, advanced exit playbooks, and priority access to new tools as they launch.

We'll never paywall the safety features. Disclaimers, guardrails, and educational content stay free forever.

You're ready to invest with confidence.

Start small, stay curious, and let Mike walk with you.
